CBG Flower: What is it and What are its Benefits?

CBG Flower: What is it and What are its Benefits?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is an essential cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, but it’s not as well known as the two major cannabinoids that are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or cannabidiol (CBD). But that doesn’t mean that it’s any less important for your health. In fact, CBG has been found to have many benefits. Let’s take a closer look at what you need to know about this lesser-known cannabis compound, and why you should try CBG flowers right now.

What is CBG and how is it different from other cannabinoids?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is an interesting compound found in the cannabis plant. The acid form of CBG, CBGA, is the precursor to every other cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. When the cannabis plant wants to synthesize THCA or CBDA, or any other cannabinoid, it has to go through CBGA synthesis first. Therefore, in the early flowering stage, the cannabinoid in cannabis is mainly CBGA, then it will be gradually replaced by THCA or CBDA. Thus, producers can choose the right flowering time to extract CBGA.

When CBGA is decarboxylated, it becomes CBG.

Can smoking CBG flowers make you high?

Unlike THC, which has a strong psychoactive effect, CBG doesn’t get you high.

Is CBG flower legal?

As long as the CBG flower is produced from a legal hemp/ cannabis plant, which has THC content lower than the limit of the local law, then it is legal to purchase and consume.

What are the Benefits of CBG?

CBG is still relatively new to the cannabinoid scene, so research is still being done to determine its full potential. But there are some interesting properties we know about so far. Experimental and in vitro animal studies have suggested that CBG has the potential to increase appetite, and has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, digestive improvement, and cancer prevention properties.

What is better? CBG or CBD?

CBG and CBD are quite similar when it comes to health benefits. Research showed that CBG can be more effective than CBD for treating migraines and reducing muscular soreness, but CBD may be better for reducing inflammation.

However, our body is unique and it’s a wide known fact that people respond differently to different cannabis/hemp products. Many people find that even though CBD cannot reduce their symptoms, CBG can, and vice versa. So, it’s highly recommended that you try both of these compounds, CBG and CBD, to decide what works best for you.

Side Effects of CBG

CBG doesn’t seem to have any significant side effects, but more research is needed. CBG may interact with certain medications as it is metabolized by the same enzyme that breaks down a large number of drugs. Because of this, CBG may increase the effectiveness of other medications and supplements, potentially leading to risk of side effects. So, please consult with your physician to see if you can use CBG flowers when taking other medications or not.
